the ghost project is an ongoing curatorial platform launched in 2024, dedicated to exploring the invisible, the silenced, and the spectral conditions of contemporary life.
In 2024, the ghost project released its first major initiative: Hyakumonogatari: 100 Modern Ghost Stories (現代百物語). Inspired by the traditional Japanese ghost-storytelling ritual, Hyakumonogatari is a collection of contemporary narratives written and donated by 99 contributors across Korea, Japan, and beyond. These stories have been made freely accessible and distributable, with the intention of cultivating greater sensitivity toward the vulnerabilities and unseen realities of marginalized individuals in our time. Artists around the world are encouraged to engage with the texts as source material—a first layer of ghostly utterances to inspire new creative interpretations across media.
Each year, the ghost project collaborate with new artists to pursue different approaches to contemporary ghostness, embracing both local contexts and transnational entanglements.

Hello, I’m Hyesu. I live in Tokyo, Japan, and mostly write in Korean.

Living with more than two languages means living in more than two temporalities. Just as a single body holds multiple sites of memory, language isn’t necessarily bound by national borders. Some memories carry a language of their own, and I often think about the politics that exist between those layered times.

I usually introduce myself as a curator or researcher. Mostly when I need to sound proper. But to be honest, I’m not very fond of the word. Because what I do—making projects and exhibitions, writing, researching, reading and thinking, and simply getting by—are all too entangled to be separated.

This page came out of that entanglement. Rather than a neatly polished portfolio, I intend to keep it as a kind of living record, a space for encounters, a notebook for testimony.
Please feel free to drop by anytime and say hello.

P.S.
I have a soft spot for the dead, the invisible, and the unspeakable.
